Do What You Can

By Abe Newmeyer, June 19, 2019

Progress & Getting BetterRelationships & Others

Met a friend a couple of weeks ago and yesterday dropped off some things to try and assist in their current situation. I got the normal thank you but later received a message that they still had to revert to previous behavior to fill a void.

This morning, I’m learning that I can only do so much. I did what was asked and helped as best as possible but it’s not my responsibility to modify anyone’s behavior but my own. If I’m able to assist, I will and that’s the clear delineation of my responsibilities on making a positive impact.

Today, Wednesday, June 19, 2019, I am grateful that:

I learned that lesson. It doesn’t concern me much more than having to write this list about the incident. I’d love it if people knew what I knew, “You are His favorite” child but they have to find out for themselves.

I awoke early and continued to clear away wreckage from the past.

I am keenly aware of the difference between humble and humiliated. Making that call today was humbling. I was not humiliated. I faced those I wronged and put forth an effort to make things right.

Do What You Can. Be Impactful!
