Which Hat To Wear

By Abe Newmeyer, September 24, 2021

Gratitude & PerspectiveWork & Business

When I speak with or read about entrepreneurs, they often talk about having to wear more than one hat. They have to be their bookkeeper, marketing rep, sales rep, customer service rep, technical advisor, and so many other things. I’d fallen into the same trap.

I say trap, because that’s exactly what it is. When I take time away from my specialty, my expertise is set aside and I’m left fumbling with things outside of what I do best. Every moment I take away from my specialty, I sacrifice quality and proficiency.

As a business owner, I have to pick the hat I’ll wear. I can’t be all things to all people. I have to narrow my focus and choose where my energies are best deployed. It means building a team to buoy my deficiencies. I’m well aware of what’s needed. I’m willing to look into the mirror, take an honest self appraisal, and to what’s needed to improve.

There’s a saying, “There’s a difference between knowing the path and walking the path.” It’s about execution. The only way I can see that happening is lessening or eliminating my weaknesses.

Today, Friday, September 24, 2021, I am grateful that:

Herb and I are moving forward with the webinar. He’s happy with the second concept for the videos and we’ll move forward. I’ll get the webinar completed this month.

Veronica will be returning to Cebu in short order. Hopefully within the next week. I have been missing my muse.

Tonio and I chatted briefly this morning. He’s back in Cebu, on the mend, and doing well.

Cousin Beverly and I spoke last night. I thoroughly enjoy our conversations and typically find some sort of perspective outside of my own. It’s great to have the insights of wise people within my circle.

Have you chosen your specialty?

Do you invest the majority of your time in your specialty?

How will you invest your time moving forward?

Be Great. Be Grateful!!!
