Killing It

By Abe Newmeyer, June 29, 2022

Work & BusinessAdaptability & Change

“If it bleeds we can kill it” is a line from the movie Predator. The movie had several sequels but the line I quoted was from the original. If you haven’t seen the movie I won’t spoil anything other than the one line above as it serves my point - identify if your competitors bleed.

We’ve all done business and thought to ourselves something like, “They should do this or that”, “If they did this, it would be better or faster”, “If I ran this place, they’d do this…” and so many other things we’ve probably all said to ourselves.

Now that you’ve selected your target and researched them thoroughly you’ve more than likely identified some weaknesses. Things that you would do differently. Things you would change to speed things up and enhance your customer’s experience or the service you deliver. That’s the blood that’ll allow you to kill your competitor.

Write those things down as they’ll distinguish you from your market leader. If you’ve thought it, chances are another customer has thought it as well. Making those changes or improvements will help you identify your unique selling proposition.

Today, Wednesday, June 29, 2022, I am grateful that:

My move will be completed today. Only a couple more items and all my things will be in my new dwelling. Happy to get this part over with.

My business is taking shape. I can clearly see two separate divisions with seven cooperating departments for implementation. I can see exactly how each works with the other and makes something that’s unique to the marketplace.

I’m getting back to myself. I’d forgotten so much about me in the last few years. My newest iteration is familiar and different simultaneously. It’ll be interesting to see how this version of myself faces my upcoming challenges.

Picture your main competitor and answer each of the questions above.

Be Great. Be Grateful!!!
